What it is not
- Not a forecast of any market. The book is shaped to exercise every path an analysis needs, not to predict what Indian lending will do.
- Rare events are present so every path can be demonstrated; their frequency is set for coverage, not to match market incidence. Restructures, repeat borrowers and second non-performing spells all occur here at rates chosen so the analysis has something to show, which are lower than a real book would carry. Where that materially affects a figure on a dashboard, the page says so.
- Fixed in time. The book ends at 31 August 2026 and does not roll forward. Every page carries that date.
Why a synthetic book at all
Because the alternative is showing you somebody else's loan book. A lender deciding whether to hand over its data is entitled to see the work without seeing a competitor's customers, and a demo built on real data would answer the capability question by failing the trust one.
It also lets us do something a real book does not allow: plant known errors and prove the checks catch them. A data-quality check that has never been shown to fire is a claim, not a control. See the data quality page for the results, and How we count for the definitions behind every figure.
